The IFS SCALE and IFS SELF SCALE were developed by Lia DeLand in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a Master’s Degree in Psychology with a Counseling Concentration from California State University, Stanislaus. Her BA degree is from Stanford University. She was a trainee in Richard Schwartz’s first IFS training program (1996-98). She has been an IFS Assistant Trainer and was a President of the former Internal Family Systems Association.

She has been in private practice for many years, specializing in trauma resolution. She has also worked in community counseling clinics, juvenile hall, a college counseling center, The Trauma Center in Boston, and a therapeutic boarding school for American teenage boys in Costa Rica.

Richard C. Schwartz, Ph.D.

The IFS SCALE and IFS SELF SCALE were developed in collaboration with Richard C. Schwartz, founder of Internal Family Systems TherapySM and Director of The Center for Self Leadership. Dr. Schwartz provided the basic idea for the scale, a sampling of typical statements of various Parts, and valuable direction and advice during the process of development and validation.
